Lithium Extrusion Presses

Lawton Machinery Group has been the leading supplier of lithium extrusion presses in the United States for more than 30 years.

The lithium extruder is normally placed in a dry room where the humidity is controlled down to 1%. In operation a large Ingot of lithium is placed in the barrel of the machine. Then a hydraulically driven piston moves into the barrel and applies controlled pressure on the lithium ingot forcing it to flow to the front of the barrel and out a narrow die creating a lithium foil. The foil is feed to a take up reel as it exits the die at a relatively high speed.

The lithium foil is then placed in canisters and in many cases sent to a battery manufacturer.

The Lawton Lithium Extrusion has evolved over the years to include process control of the ram and vacuum systems to enable the company extruding the lithium to produce high quality foil. LMG has also engineered improvements on the exit side of the extruder to minimize die change over time.
